Advantages of freelancing

"Freelance gave me that freedom to write whatever I want"

Ghafar, 2016

Be the boss!

Freelancing has its ups and down just like any other job but a clear advantage of working as a freelancer is that you are the boss!, you choose and dictate when and what you work on. The responsibility lies solely on your shoulders as daunting that may seem, freelancing provides individuals to follow their passions resulting in the ultimate freedom.

As a freelancer who and what you work on is your decision, freelancers have the opportunity to submerge themselves into specific interest areas which will help build good relationships with clientele in that specific area of interest as you will have an understandimg of what type of work they are looking for.

as you start picking up jobs from different clients freelancers can choose to turn down the work if you don't want to, it's simple as that.

Freelancers can also work on personal projects and sell them on, it's a two way streak to gain work as a freelancer, clients can come to you for a service or you can sell your product to a client that may be interested in your work.

Like Henrique put it

‘I basically call the shots’

Working wherever you want is also another possibility for freelancers which ranges from the comforts of your living room or travelling across the world.

The extravagant prospect of site seeing and working sounds too good to miss out on as Henrique expressed

‘Where I see myself in the future with freelance photography, I see myself travelling around the world and being open to different experiences and meeting new people’

There is a lot of negative assumptions with working as a freelance but one mouth watering fact is that you keep all of the profits, yes freelancers get paid the whole percentage for their work, this allows for freelancers to potentially make a sufficient living and the opportunity to possibly reinvest in equipment or put money away in savings.

Picking your rates is also an advantage of a freelancer, rates must be realistic and are dependent on your skill level and experience but the rate is your choice.

As freelancers don't have a fixed job it's solely on the freelancer to choose what to do with their time and how much they want to work, taking on multiple jobs at one time is also a way to increase salary but only if you can handle it, there is nothing worse than under par work or missing deadlines.
